Gulmohur Chronicles – Edition 21

The month of April is a month full of various and interesting events. This is the month in which interesting festivals like Easter, Good Friday, Eid etc are celebrated. This month is not only an important month of festivals but also has a very important significance for Indians. Every Year on 14th April we observe Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti to commemorate the memory of Dr. BR Ambedkar, who was an Indian Politician & an active reformer and most importantly he is
the father of our Indian Constituition.

Dr. Ambedkar dedicated his life to uplift the Dalit clans and helped them to attain their due respect in the society. He was determined to do something for the upliftment of Dalit class from an early age. His hardwork and dedication towards this cause earned immense accolades and brought about reforms. No wonder a special day has been dedicated to this great soul. Ambedkar Jayanti has been declared a public holiday and is celebrated with great zeal. Apart
from Ambedkar Jayanti another major national incident took place in Indian. The Jalianwala Bagh massacre also called Massacre of Amritsar was an incident that took place on April 13, 1919 in which British troops fixed on a large crowd of unharmed Indians in an open space known as Jalianwala Bagh in Amritsar in Punjab. The Jalianwala site in Amritsar is now a national monument.
